Coach
Every coach must be registered in RAMP for Softball and Spordle for Baseball as a staff member. If you are not registered then you will not be allowed on the bench. Each team will consist of one coach, one assistant coach and one manager. There will be at least one person the same gender as the team. It will be up to the executive discretion if there will be more than one coach or assistant coach.
Role Purpose
To lead, teach, and mentor players in a positive, development-focused environment while ensuring all coaching responsibilities, safety standards, and VMBA policies are followed throughout the season.
Key Responsibilities
- Player Development & Team Leadership
- Teach age-appropriate skills, fundamentals, and game concepts
- Create an inclusive, supportive environment for all players
- Promote effort, teamwork, respect, and fair play
- Encourage both recreational and competitive growth within VMBA’s development model
- Plan & Deliver Practices
- Create structured, purposeful practice plans
- Ensure drills support player development across all skill levels
- Use practice time efficiently and safely
- Communicate arrival times and expectations clearly
- Game Day Leadership
- Set batting order, positions, and player rotations according to division rules
- Collaborate with umpires respectfully and professionally
- Ensure athletes understand rules and expectations
- Maintain control of the bench, dugout, and game environment
- Work With Team Manager
- Coordinate schedules, communication, game reminders, and updates
- Support organization of tournaments, travel planning, and forms
- Assist with equipment pick-up and returns
- Follow VMBA & Provincial Governing Body Policies
- Abide by Softball Alberta or Baseball Alberta rules
- Respect VMBA’s Codes of Conduct (coach, player, parent)
